Chamonix Haute Savoie France Provides a Supreme Location for Ski Weekends
Chamonix Haute Savoie is found at the base of the wonderful Mt Blanc in the European Alps and is widely regarded as the mixed climbing and skiing centre of the world. The town has long been known as a true domain for activities in summer and winter. Chamonix held the inaugural Winter games in the early 1920s – but it’s also a region of brilliant vistas providing a lot of different things to the adventurous climber and holiday maker.
Unlike a lot of up to date skiing resorts the resort of Chamonix isn’t a modern ski area and has been saved from the concrete monstrosities which litters so much of the French Alps. It is lucky to have not only an internationally famous ski mountain but a classic and thriving town centre.
It is large enough to insure that there’s enough for the non skier to see, from sports to culture, shopping and sightseeing. There’s an impressive sports area, ice rink, cinema and weekly market; and lots of designer shops, terraced caf©s and night clibs, Chamonix town offers a mix of mountaineering, atmosphere and going out, which not many mountain areas can match.
