Depression: Recommendations For Sexual Side Effects By Antidepressants

January 18th, 2010

Sexual side effects caused by antidepressants are completely recognized, but this represents a practical problem of managing to physicians. Erectile dysfunction, diminished libido and delayed/attenuated or absent orgasm (dysorgasmia or anorgasmia) are the most common sexual side effects reported because of antidepressant treatment.

However, sexual side effects caused by antidepressants are also a very challenge to clinicians, since they have to distinguish between sexual dysfunction (SD) associated with depression, treatment-emergent SD and pre-existing SD exacerbated by treatment.

Making the difference between these situations is quite important, since treatment strategies are not the same for the above mentioned SDs. Sexual dysfunction associated with depression may be treated raising the antidepressant dose, however, this would be particularly inappropriate for a treatment-emergent SD, in which case the appropriate thing is to lower the dose.

For managing appropriately antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction, experts recommend that clinicians may attempt to alleviate the sexual side effects of a drug though a reduction of the dose and/or a change to an alternative therapy that may be less likely to cause sexual side effects. These strategies are more likely to be used in patients who are not responding fully to treatment and also risk sacrificing the therapeutic benefit of treatment.

Nonpharmacologic interventions are also recommended by experts. Behavioral and cognitive-behavioral techniques employed by sex therapists are the most common, although there are no studies evaluating their success in patients taking antidepressants.

There exist a number of medications quite useful in the treatment of sexual dysfunction associated with antidepressants. Under experts’ opinion, the most common medications for antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction fall into three categories:

Dopaminergic agents, such as amantadine and pramipexole.

a2-adrenergic receptor antagonists such as yohimbine.

Serotonin 5-HT2 or 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, including granisetron, nefazodone and cyproheptadine.

Exercise The Right Way – The Hammer Curl

January 10th, 2010

Other articles in this series looked at a number of exercises, mainly from the perspective of developing a comprehensive muscle building program. Sometimes we take things for granted, especially when it comes to performing the basic exercises that constitute the core of most bodybuiders’ training regimes.

It is useful, therefore, to describe in detail the processes involved in actually doing these exercises. This will help beginners to start out using the correct techniques before moving on to potentially more dangerous heavy weights. If it also helps more experienced lifters to redress some of the little faults that have almost imperceptibly crept in over the years, all the better.

In this article we’ll take a close look at the hammer curl using dumbbells.

MUSCLES TARGETED: brachialis, biceps brachii, brachioradialis

PREPARATION

Grasp two dumbbells using a closed grip.

STARTING POSITION

Stand erect with the feet shoulder width apart, knees slightly flexed.
Place the dumbbells beside the thighs with the elbows fully extended.
Palms should be facing the outer thighs.
Position the upper arms against the sides of the torso.

UPWARD MOVEMENT

Flex the elbow of one arm until the dumbbell is within a few inches of the front deltoid.
Keep the torso erect and the upper arm stationary.
Keep the dumbbell in neutral grip position.
Keep all movements smooth.

DOWNWARD MOVEMENT

Allow the elbow to slowly extend to the starting position.
Keep dumbbell in neutral grip position.
Keep the torso and knees in the same position.
Repeat the same movements with the other arm.
Repeat or finish set.

Sitcom Investing

January 6th, 2010

A fickle stock market encourages good-humored mockery.

Recently, as I watched the premiere of a sitcom, an obvious omission breached television etiquette. Silence followed every exaggerated comedic set-up. There was no laugh track. Where were the premeditated giggles from the show’s “audience?” At last, the viewer determines the funny moment.

It then occurred to me, the writers of this new show adopted an aspect used by investment news programs.

I will be the first to admit, in addition to the miscellaneous printed and electronic financial information, the television provides an abundance of supplemental financial news. However, the shows often leave me asking, “What’s missing?” In addition, the shows may very well leave viewers with the ultimate responsibility, which segment is entertainment and which is practical advice.

Perhaps you may recognize one of the canned statements below that investment show gurus continuously utter. Although each may be applicable (and in may cases vital to successful financial planning), notice the missing “laugh tracks.”

How many times have you heard “Invest For the Long Term?” The analyst may be leaving out “because I hope you forget my last appearance and the short term disaster I have caused for the viewers who actually acted on my recommendation.” Each investor’s long-term outlook is somewhat different for the other’s and you should always review the guests’ recommendations with caution. What is his or her reasoning for such revelation?

“Buy and Hold.” The missing part: “because I have no idea of an exit strategy to recommend.” True enough, the more successful investors are those who invest according to a well-planned strategy and stick to it. They generally hold onto their winners. There are, however, times that will dictate an exit strategy.

Finally, there’s “Use Asset Allocation.” The missing part: “because I cannot tell you which asset historically does better in this particular market environment.” There are many ways to accomplish diversification in your portfolio and it does not always have to revolve around the division of stocks, bonds, and cash. Depending on your particular objectives, time horizons, and risks, an appropriate allocation may be derived from the use of just one type of asset. Either way, there are no guarantees when you place your money in the stock market and it is best to remind yourself of the risks of each investment. Try including real estate, collectibles and insurance products in your general financial plan.

We can all watch the appearance investment gurus make on financial shows. Perhaps we can include light-hearted follow-up statements as if we were watching a Rocky Horror film. We often enjoy the amusement provided by television personalities, however, it is important to review your investments regularly. Always examine your motive behind each buy and sell.

In actuality, your financial future is no laughing matter and should be guided with thorough commentary. Television shows come and go; your finances may one day be a legacy.

Knighthood to David Jason and Marriage to Gill

January 6th, 2010

The 65 year-old BBC Only Fools and Horses actor arrived at Buckingham Palace this morning to receive his honour with new wife Gill. Gill Hinchcliffe has been his long time partner and at 45 became not just Mrs White, but Lady White too.

The Queen Mother is said to have been one of the members of the Royal Family who received advance copies of Only Fools and Horses. In recent years, the special Christmas edition of the perennial BBC favourite has been broadcast as reliably as the Queen’s Speech.

When interviewed, David Jason fell into his Del boy roll while being interviewed. Sir David, 65, acknowledged his debt to the character of Derek “Del Boy” Trotter, saying modestly: “Being a fool is probably the only gift I possess.” He said the Queen was “not necessarily a fan”, but certainly recognised his long-standing career, which has included roles in Open All Hours and the Darling Buds of May and A Touch of Frost.

The smiling couple, accompanied by their four year old daughter Sophie May, then ignored further questions as they dashed off for a series of television interviews.

Sir David met Hinchcliffe on the set of “A Bit Of A Do” in 1989. They remained friends and their relationship did not start until David’s previous partner of 18 years, Myfanwy Talog, died tragically of cancer in 1995.

Gill gave birth to the couple’s first child, Sophie Mae, in 2001 at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury.

Surviving Life After Divorce

January 5th, 2010

After divorce, the most important thing you can do is to move forward sensibly. Here are ten steps to help you on your way back to a fulfilling life.

1. Think single. As obvious as it may seem, you’re no longer one half of a couple and that can take some getting used to. After all, life as a single woman is very different to the life you’ve been leading for a major part of your life. Take time to understand the changes that are happening in your life and don’t expect it to be easy.

2. Remind yourself that it’s ok to be single. In a society where single women are often looked down at by their married peers, they can easily find themselves believing that they’re failures; that “real” women are involved in loving, lasting relationships. That simply isn’t true. More and more women are choosing to remain single, or to break out of unfulfilling relationships, something which shows strength rather than weakness. Surviving means believing in yourself and your capabilities as a single woman.

3. Don’t try to get even. No matter how angry you are at your partner, even if he’s been unfaithful to you, don’t try to get your own back. You’ll just end up exhausting your personal energy on something that isn’t going to be the least bit fruitful. It certainly won’t get him back but the bitterness will most likely stop you from moving on. You don’t deserve that, so don’t do it! Try to approach your anger in a sensible manner, one that will constructive in helping you back to a healthy, emotional state of mind. Writing down exactly what is making you angry and why can often help you to understand and deal with your feelings. Find a friend who’ll listen and tell her how you feel. Anger needs an outlet, but revenge isn’t a healthy way of venting it.

4. Accept that the relationship is over. When you’re living alone and your partner has moved on, it should be easy to accept that it’s over. Unfortunately, this is something that a lot of women have problems with. You may find yourself making excuses to visit him by forgetting things at his place or needing to discuss something trivial regarding the children. Don’t crowd him. Talk to him when you need to, visit if you must, but be polite, keep your distance emotionally, and accept that you now lead separate lives. The sooner you accept this, the sooner you will be able to find happiness again.

5. Don’t live in the past. No doubt you’ve got some great memories from your time together, you would never have stayed together as long as you did if there were never any good times. Remember them by all means, but don’t dwell on them. If you find yourself wishing that everything could be “like that” again, give yourself a mental slap and remind yourself that there are some fantastic moments waiting for you in the future and that the past is nothing but a memory. You can learn from it but you can’t change it or return to it. It’s over. Gone. The future is what you should be thinking about now!

6. Don’t drown yourself in guilt. You’ve probably said a few things that you didn’t mean and now regret but you can’t change that now. By all means apologise to your ex if it’ll make you feel better, but don’t expect your apology to change anything. Forgive yourself and learn from your mistakes.

7. Re-discover yourself! How much of yourself did you give up during your relationship? Did you find yourself bending over backwards to satisfy your partner? Now is the time to start living for you! Doing the things that make YOU happy will increase your self-confidence. Get a new hair-cut, re-arrange the furniture, enrol on a course. Do anything you like, but do it for YOU.

8. Sort out your finances. Your financial situation is bound to have changed and it’s important that you know exactly how much you have coming in. It’s easy to start over-spending while you’re wallowing in your self-pity. A little extra indulgence here and another there; it’s easy to fall into the trap so don’t be tempted. Getting yourself into debt will just make your life as a single woman unnecessarily difficult. If your income is low (or non-existent) contact Social Services Benefits Advice Service or your local Citizens Advice Bureau. They will have somebody available to assess your needs and help you claim any benefits that you may be eligible for.

9. Don’t become lonely. You may have found that your “couple friends” no longer invite you over or that your married friends don’t have the time to do the things you suggest. Don’t panic. This is perfectly normal and as time passes you will gradually find new friends. Whatever you do, be positive when you are with others as positive people always attract more friends. When you meet new people, they don’t want to listen to “doom and gloom”. They don’t know you yet and will probably find it difficult to be sympathetic to a complete stranger. Be cheery and make them smile, people will remember and like you for that.

10. Don’t get involved on the rebound! We’ve all heard it, but when you meet “that” guy, it’s so easy to forget. Keep your dates light and remember that there is a broad line between getting to know a person and bonding a close, intimate relationship. Don’t try to jump that line, it’s there to be crossed slowly. When you try to cross it too quickly you’ll be forcing the relationship and forced relationships rarely last. Yes, I know there are some whirlwind romances that have survived the test of time, but those are the exception, rather than the rule.

I’ve been married, single and a live-in partner. All sorts of relationships have their good and bad sides. When you’re single you might yearn for the stability of marriage; when you’re married you may envy the freedom of your single friends. Whatever happens, whether you choose to remain single or forge a new relationship, don’t keep comparing your life with that of your friends. You’re unique – your life is exceptional! Enjoy it!

Night Vision Devices — The Ultimate in BackCountry Toys

January 2nd, 2010

Many nights in the backcountry are far from dark. A bright moon and a sky full of stars can throw off enough light to allow for reading a book, but add cloud cover, mountains or trees and it gets dark awfully fast. When you need to see in the dark, you have two choices – you either turn on a light, or use one of the many available night vision devices (NVD). The NVD could be the ultimate backcountry toy.

Like choosing many other types of technology, choosing the correct NVD is all about how you are going to use it. When most people think of night vision capabilities, they think about spy movies, the military or law enforcement – applications where it is vital for the good guys to see without being seen by the bad guys. A drop in pricing over the past few years has made a NVD affordable for campers, hunters, hikers and a wide variety of other outdoor enthusiasts. However, high-end devices used for specialized purposes remain quite expensive.

There are two broad categories of NVD. Image Enhancement devices collect small amounts of light and amplify them to the point where the human eye can observe the object. Thermal Imaging devices capture the high end of the infrared light spectrum which is emitted as heat by objects. Image Enhancement devices will provide a much crisper image with detail while Thermal Imaging devices show regions of heat. Currently, five Generations of NVD exist. Generations 0 and 1 are less expensive and typically produce a poor image quality. Generations 2, 3 and 4 have increasingly better image quality and an equally increasing price to match.

Applications for NVD are actually quite diverse. They include but are not limited to: military, law enforcement, hunting, wildlife observation, surveillance, security, navigation, hidden-object detection, spelunking and entertainment. NVD can be found on helicopters, rifles, camcorders, cameras, boats….just about anywhere. A new craze found at up-scale gatherings is called “A Dinner in the Dark Party” where guests wear an NVD throughout their dining experience.

Many outdoor enthusiasts are beginning to discover the wonderful world that can be found after darkness falls in the backcountry. If you like to camp, hike or hunt, chances are good an NVD will be perfect for you.

Use this information and you’ll Get It Right The First Time. Get Outdoors!

Stop Procrastination Now

January 2nd, 2010

How long did it take you to realize the benefits of removing a splinter right away from your finger? As a child, removing that splinter seemed like an awful thing to do, but experience FINALLY taught us that if we leave it alone, it will only get in
How long did it take you to realize the benefits of removing a splinter right away from your finger? As a child, removing that splinter seemed like an awful thing to do, but experience FINALLY taught us that if we leave it alone, it will only get infected, get worse, and be a whole lot harder to deal with.

But have you really learned this lesson yet?

Allowing – even courting – delay in your life is a huge road block between you and a great life. When you respond to a problem, situation, request, task, etc. without delay, you minimize the action – and the pain — involved. .

Think again about that splinter. Consider it as a metaphor to any problem or situation that you need to deal with, that needs change. At first the ’splinter’ catches your attention, with just an Ouch. But if you ignore it, it will get sore. If you continue to ignore it, it will swell and be quite painful. If you continue to ignore it, or just put a band-aid on it instead of getting to the source (the splinter), it may become so infected that it could actually threaten your health. All that from a tiny splinter, or tiny problem that you chose to delay taking care of.

Need for ACTION, shows up like this: • Inkling, Hint, or OUCH (a.k.a. the splinter) – Example, the car insurance bill due every 6 months. A few months ahead you begin to think “I oughta put back some money to pay that insurance that’s going to be due in December.” • Message: Bill arrives; you don’t have the money to pay; you ignore the bill • Problem: Late due notice arrives, includes extra for late fees; it’s Christmas time, and you just don’t have any extra right now; you ignore the bill (that splinter is swollen and quite painful right now) • Crisis: Your insurance is cancelled, and you’ll have to put out a lot more to get a new insurance company to take you.

The epitome of delay in our society is credit card debt. If you look at credit cards realistically, when you charge something you are only delaying when and how much extra you’ll pay for purchasing it. So you end up paying for a dinner you enjoyed months ago, PLUS the added interest.

When you allow delay to CONTROL your life, everybody and everything else in charge of your life. You’re not running your life, the insurance company or the credit card company or your mother in law or the kids ARE.

When you delay, YOU – yes, YOU — create a crisis situation, and you end up without a choice. No Choice on how to spend that money – it MUST be used to pay the credit card. No Choice on how to spend your time –it MUST be used to go see your mother-in-law.

Your actions, your thoughts, your behavior, your money, your energy will be controlled by an external deadline.

Instead, when a problem is approached from an “eliminate delay” standpoint, sometimes only a small step is necessary to solve the problem – or to AVOID the problem altogether. An early response will usually allow time for making an informed decision based on CHOICE, instead of ‘haveto’.

Each one of these is harder and harder to deal with. Each one of these costs you more energy, time, money, and even a part of your spirit.

When you begin to Eliminate Delay from your life, you are able to respond to hints or inklings (such as a bill that WILL be due in the future), in a way that works FOR you, instead of having to respond in a way that’s dictated by others (i.e. the insurance company example).

Become the type of person who responds to problems and situations and other’s requests (when appropriate) immediately. You’ll be able to respond calmly and efficiently, because you have the LUXURY of choice and reserves of time, energy, support, money. ————————————- This is an excerpt from the Ebook, “10 Things Between You and a Great Life!” by Professional Life Coach Kathy Gates. Where To Find Classic Car Parts

December 31st, 2009

Classic car parts are not easy to come by. But if you have finally been able to purchase the classic car you’ve always dreamed of, finding the classic car parts to restore and accessorize it may be a high on your priority list.

Whether you have a muscle car, an antique or a vintage model, you will inevitably find the need to replace and restore some of your car parts. Classic car parts are not as readily available as for the cars that are still in production. You can’t just walk into a dealership and place your order because the parts are no longer being made. But with a little digging, they can be found.

Some places to start your search include:

Online Auctions

Online auction sites, such as Ebay, are probably the easiest place to begin your search for classic car parts. If you’ve seen the ads that Ebay has “It,” you know this is true. Ebay Motors has many listings for hard to find vehicles and classic car parts. You’ll have to cover the shipping charges, so that is something to consider when purchasing larger items.

Swap Meets

Finding a local swap meet may be just the thing you need to locate the classic car parts you need. They are great places to find older model accessories and other outdated items.

Classic Car Part Dealer Publications

Often times you can find the parts you are looking for in car part dealer magazines. The only drawback here is that you will probably have to spend top dollar. This option could be used as a last resort though if you are unable to find a specific part anywhere else. Exhaust all other possibilities first if money is tight.

Clubs and Organizations

Clubs and organizations exist for as many hobbies that people can think up. Certainly, there are a fair number of clubs and organizations geared toward car enthusiasts. Locating and joining one such club may prove beneficial in your hunt for classic car parts. You will be able to make connections with other people who share your interest.

In the Internet age, it is also possible to find a club or organization centered on classic car parts by doing an online search. Try searching Yahoo groups and you are likely to find a list of clubs you could join. Again, making connections with people who share your interest in classic car parts may lead you to a dealer or another source from which you can purchase classic car parts.

Junkyards

Maybe you don’t picture yourself hanging around a junkyard to find used classic car parts, but you may be able to find a diamond in the rough. If you have never used this type of service before, it could be worthwhile to check it out. Everything is computerized and usually a visit or a phone call is all you need to check and see if they have the part or accessory that you need for your precious investment.

Of course you will want to take good care of your classic car to limit the number of parts that you will need to search for. The less time you spend tracking down parts, the more time you can spend enjoying the car of your dreams.

Top Aerobic Exercises

November 29th, 2009

We all need a little exercise in our lives, should it be for weight or for overall health. Here are the best types of aerobic activity for fat loss:

Running/jogging outdoors – running or jogging is a fantastic cardiovascular exercise and one of the best when it comes to fat loss. One of the advantages is that you don’t need any machines when doing this aerobic exercise. Most beginners would be better off by starting with only jogging, because when your body is not used to high intensity aerobic exercises, it can lead to an injuries.

Walking – walking is a perfect exercise for beginners if they’re just starting a fat burning program. Walking is very natural, meaning everyone can walk and doesn’t tire the body too quickly. The only drawback is that even if you walk for 30-60 minutes, it won’t really burn many calories unless you walk at a fast pace.

Treadmill – just like running/jogging outdoors, it can also be done indoors. This is a big advantage to people who have cold climates and cannot run/job outside all year long. Because of all the advances in technologies, treadmills now have a lower injury potential so it’s much easier on your feet and legs.

Stationary Bicycle – stationary bicycles come in different forms, the two most popular ones are stationary upright bicycles and stationary recumbent bicycle. The upright bicycles provide different preprogrammed courses which help people keep the same intensity throughout the workout. Most of them have multiple difficulty levels and built-in heart rate monitors. The recumbent bicycle is very similar to the upright one, but because the lower back is supported, it’s much more comfortable.

Outdoor cycling – not as good as stationary bicycling because people can cheat by letting gravity do all the work. But a lot of people enjoy mountain biking and cross-country cycling, so they’d prefer to ride their bikes outdoors. In order for outdoor cycling to have a fat burning effect, you must maintain a steady pace or else it won’t be that effective.

Elliptical machine – these machines first became popular in 1995. Lots of major fitness companies started making their own version of the elliptical machine. It’s like a combination of hiking, cycling and walking all in one, which is what give it its excellent fat burning potential. And because it’s a very fun exercise to do, people tend to report that it’s much easier to for them to complete then other exercise at the same intensity.

Rowing machine – many people consider the rowing machine to be the most total aerobic exercise because it works all the major muscle groups in the body through a wide range of motion. The advantage to this is that it burns a lot of calories which helps burn more fat, but it can also be very fatiguing for people to maintain a sustained long enough workouts.

Stairclimbers – these aerobic exercises not only provide an intense fat burning workout, but they also effectively target the hamstrings, glutes, quadriceps and calves. They come with many difficulty levels and workout programs. Unless you feel some knee pain, this one’s a very high calorie burning exercise.

How to Choose a Good Domain Name.

November 28th, 2009

In the E-World your domain name is your first assessment of what your site is about. It’s not just your site name but it is the first criterion of your success on the Internet and when it comes to a point of success you must hold it tight. It can make your business stand out in the crowd, or just float aimlessly in space. Well many of us think that it merely plays any role but it’s not the truth. Think if nobody remembers your site name or see no visual look of what your site is about.

The temptation of a good domain name is so powerful; that’s why some companies even paid ridiculously high prices to get the name they want. The domains Loans.com and Wines.com were both bought for $3 million each. Telephone.com was acquired for $1.75 million, while Bingo.com sold for $1.1 million.

So the main question is, what points we should consider when we choose a domain name. For better results, your domain name should be memorable and easy to remember. Remember the following tips when creating a domain name.

* The domain name should be short. * The domain name should be simple. * It should be suggestive of your business category. * It should be unique. * It should be easy to interpret and pronounce. * It should be personalized. * It should not be difficult to spell. * It should not be difficult to remember.

Domain names can be registered through many different companies (known as “registrars”). You can register for 1 to 10 years – prices can vary anywhere from $10 to $20 per year. Most web hosting companies, will handle the registration process for you, but make sure that you are properly listed as the owner of the domain when it is registered.

If you have registered a domain name for a specific period, make sure you renew it in time. You can be surprised at the number of cases, where site owners have let a domain name slip by if they have not renewed in time.

How to use expired domains:

Did you know you can use expired domains to skyrocket your traffic? Let me tell you about expired domains first. Thousands of webmasters invest time, effort and money to promote their site and build up traffic. Many of them then lose interest and move on, leaving their site active. That means that although they still own the domain, they’re not actively promoting it.

All the automatic marketing systems they’ve put in place are still bringing in traffic. The site runs itself. Now, at some point the ownership of those domains is going to expire. If you snap up those domains once they come back onto the market, you’ve got a pre-built stream of customers. You can either rebuild the site, or redirect the traffic to your domain. You could set up an affiliate program get paid for users someone else paid for.

Its that easy.

Websites such as www.expiredtraffic.com or www.deleteddomains.com are doing great job for expired domains. They actually do all the legwork and let you reap all the rewards. Even you can back-order a specific domain name also.

Do be careful when using other sites though. There are some swindlers out there that will sell you subscriptions, provide you with outdated lists, take your money and keep the good domains for themselves.

There are tons of options, and lots of easy ways to make lots of money with very little effort. Opportunities like these are everywhere. All we need a strong determination to succeed, and a good mentor.
